Connect Telegram.
Talk to your teams from a Telegram group, with one topic per team. You and your EA can both use it, from anywhere.
Telegram lets you message your teams from any phone or computer, without Tailscale. You set up a Telegram bot (your team's account in Telegram) and a group with one topic per team. Everything you write in a team's topic goes to that team.
Open Settings › Messaging on the Mac that runs your team. Choose Telegram. The page walks through four steps.
Settings, Telegram, with the four set-up steps
1. Make your bot
- In Telegram, open a chat with @BotFather (Telegram's official bot for making bots). There's a How to make a bot link in Settings if you want Telegram's own instructions.
- Send
/newbot, then give your bot a name (for example "Smith Physio Team") and a username ending inbot. - BotFather replies with a token, a long code like
123456789:AAH…. Copy it. - Back in ReddropAI, paste it into Bot token and choose Save token. It's stored in the Mac's Keychain, never in a file.[ Screenshot coming ]
Step 1, Your bot, with the token saved
2. Make your group
- In Telegram, create a new group and add your bot to it.
- Open the group's settings and turn on Topics.
- Make the bot an admin with Manage topics switched on.
- Back in ReddropAI, choose Check again. Each requirement gets a tick: Topics are on, The bot is an admin, The bot can manage topics.
- Choose Connect group. Choose Send test message to check it works.[ Screenshot coming ]
Step 2, Your group, with all three ticks and Connect group
If ReddropAI says it's waiting for the bot to be added and the bot is already in the group, send any message in the group.
3. Make the team topics
Choose Create team topics. ReddropAI adds one topic in the group for each team in the space. If you add a team later, come back and choose Update team topics.
Step 3, Team topics, and the topics in the Telegram group
4. Say who's who
ReddropAI only listens to people you've named. Ask yourself and your EA to send a quick hello in the group, and you'll each appear in the list.
- Owner: you. You can approve or reject anything.
- Team member: for example your EA. Turn on Can approve posts if they should be able to approve actions too.
- Ignore: anyone else in the group. Their messages are ignored.
You can also set the Name in ReddropAI for each person, so bots know who they're talking to.
Step 4, Who's who, with an Owner and a Team member
Using it
- Write in a team's topic to talk to that team. Your messages show in the app as "[Your name via Telegram]".
- When a bot needs your OK, Telegram shows buttons to approve or reject.
- Reply to a bot that's waiting on you and it carries on.
Disconnect Telegram
In Settings › Messaging, choose Disconnect Telegram. This forgets the bot token and the group on this Mac. The group and its messages stay in Telegram.
